200 Trees Challenge

  • 589 E Main St Spartanburg, SC, 29302 United States (map)

It is the mission of the Converse Heights Neighborhood Association to make our neighborhood “safe, beautiful, and fun.” We are initiating a 200 Trees Challenge to mulch and care for the trees in the medians along Twin Drive, Mills Avenue, and Otis Boulevard. These median trees are a special feature of our neighborhood - it will benefit us all to make them look their best. We can only do this with the help of neighbors like you. We are being greatly assisted by the Trees Coalition and the City of Spartanburg.

The trees on Twin were mulched on February 16. We will tackle the 88 median trees on Mills Avenue on June 18, at 5:30PM. Plan to meet beside the Converse College Alumni House at the corner of East Main and Mills Avenue at 5:30PM on Tuesday, June 18. Bring your wheel barrow, rake, and work gloves. We will be instructed by Josh Baker, Trees Expert with the City of Spartanburg. (Take a look at the attached photos to see what can go wrong with incorrect mulching). The mulch will be on site and ready to spread. We will finish no later than 7:30PM. Each volunteer will receive a handout on effective mulching.

We will take on Otis on July 16. Mark your calendars, details to follow. In addition, CHNA has received a grant from the Noble Trees Foundation to remove English ivy from our trees. Merike Tamm is heading up this effort. Can you nominate one tree that badly needs ivy removed? Please join us!
